Austin police are investigating a sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl by as many as 10 men.
The teenage victim was picked up by three suspects at the intersection of Payton Gin Road and Galewood Drive in North Austin on the evening of June 29. The 13-year-old ran away from the Settlement Home, a foster child facility, located at 1600 Payton Gin Road.
The victim was taken to the apartment of 24-year-old Juan Lozano Ortega, located nearby at 9300 Northgate Boulevard. The victim told police there were seven to 10 additional men inside the apartment when they arrived.
Ortega took the girl into the bedroom and began to rape her. The other men watched and cheered, at least one of them taping the assault on a cell phone. Ortega’s arrest affidavit states the victim told detectives once he was finished, all of the remaining men also raped her, the attacks lasting into the early morning hours.
Then, Ortega and another suspect, 26-year-old Edgar Gerardo Guzman Perez, drove the suspect to a neighborhood where they told her to “find some place to go.”
The victim then walked back to the Settlement Home and reported what happened. Police were able to track down Ortega through a phone call the victim made on his phone after the assaults.
The victim was taken to the hospital where medical officials were able to confirm the victim’s injuries were consistent with her allegations, according to police records.
Both Perez and Ortega are charged with aggravated sex of a child, a first-degree felony. They are both in Travis County Jail on $30,000 bond.
